Enphase puts a microinverter under every panel instead of one string inverter for the whole roof. Shade, orientation and a failed panel become a local problem rather than a problem for the entire string, and monitoring is per panel. On roofs with several planes or a lot of shade, that is often the shortest route to an installation that works.
